Skirting this vineyard, the historic entrance to the Estate, is the Via Aurelia, the main road along the Tuscan Coast. The soil here is predominantly aeolian sand, testifying to its proximity to the sea, which is just 800m away. Flysch is also present in the higher areas of the vineyard (known as Ceccosodo, about 60m above sea level), creating the ideal structure for Petit Verdot, which together with Merlot and the Cabernets, form the basis for Poggio ai Ginepri.
